Edinburgh Festival - Seriously heaving this year and Apartments are doing Equally well!

David Mackman here - doing my first post on our blog and trying to get it moving along after a prolonged silence.

Well the good news is that Edinburgh - surprise surprise - is doing well again! It did not take long for us to weather the storm and despite having two rather naughty banks on our doorstep who seem to be responsible for a fair chunk of the world's problems - we are still here.

The festival is at its most popular for years and there is a fantastic atmosphere in town.

Preparations are currently underway here for The World's largest arts festival the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
As many of you are aware, Edinburgh is buzzing during the festival with a whole host of acts and performances in numerous venues across the city.
The history and cultural setting in Edinburgh make it an ideal setting for an arts festival and this year is predicted to be bigger and better than previous years. Im excited about it and I live here!

Martha Wainwright (22/10/08, Edinburgh Picturehouse) - review

Based between a betting shop and a hearing assistance shop, the Picturehouse is filled with wood and richness. It has retained the feel of a cinema and the acoustics are great. The layout of the venue is intriguing therefore – with an upper and lower level viewing area, but retaining a fairly intimate atmosphere.

The crowd was disappointingly quiet, and the support act largely unimpressive. The trumpet playing by one half of this duo was the best part to be honest.

Bolt Ons Don't Save Edinburgh Money

Edinburgh's Forth Road Bridge is cracking up. That's the verdict of engineers, who've replaced cracked bolts on its hangers, that hold the cables to the carriageways.

The bolts are expected to have a 30-year lifespan but broken bolts have been discovered just 10 years in. Other work that needs completing includes dry air blowers to be installed to halt corrosion on the bridge's cables.

Going Postal in Edinburgh takes on new meaning...

Do you live in Edinburgh and had fewer birthday cards last year than expected? Between April-October 2007, an Edinburgh postman failed to deliver 1500 letters, instead choosing to hide them in his car an dthen his home.

Scott Hamilton, 30, claimed he was under stress and the factor to blame was an accident over a decade ago. Sheriff Derrick McIntyre, presiding, said the crime should be dealt with by a fine of £1000, calling the offense a 'breach of trust'.

All the nominations are in for the Scottish Restaurant Awards 2008. The race is on for the 15 awards, from best Italian restaurant to best rural restaurant of the year and best customer service.

Nominations for these tasty awards closed on 10 October. Now all the judges need to do is sample and rate the contestants. Shortlisting, site visits and judging sessions will result in a winner being decided in each category.
