Dodging Trams!

Ask anyone in Edinburgh what the trams mean to them and they'll answer "roadworks and delays", most probably with a sour faced expression too.

Leith Walk Obstacle Course

photo from http://edinburghlook.wordpress.com

Leith Walk is currently the hardest hit of all streets in the capital. Traffic between Edinburgh and Leith now uses a slalom course rather than a thoroughfare. Over at EdinburghLook it is compared to an obstacle course Edinburgh North & Leith MP Mark Lazarowicz makes no mention of it on his blog despite having a post about the difficulties of travelling across Edinburgh. Calum Cashley, the SNP's candidate for Edinburgh North & Leith has numerous posts on the subject (from a political rather than practical point of view).

What the blogosphere is evidently missing is a guide to dodging Leith Walk like the taxi drivers do!

Avoiding the roadworks

Below is one suggested route into Edinburgh from Leith, there may be other good ones too, but this is our favourite:

Directions

  • Head for Ferry Road.
  • Turn off Ferry Road into South Fort Street
  • Continue until the junction with Bonnington Road
  • Turn right at the junction with Bonnington Road
  • Continue until the fork with East Claremont Street
  • Turn left at the junction with Bellevue
  • Go straight through the roundabout and up Broughton Street
  • Stay in the right hand lane and go all the way round the roundabout
  • Exit the roundabout onto York Place and turn off Queen Street when required.

Congratulations you have avoided Leith Walk
