London-based singer mingles jazz, world and Latin-influenced tunes. Jazz Services Ltd and Arts Council England-suppported gig. Funky accompaniment by trumpet/fluegelhorn and piano. Great revues of her work from The Herald, Humphrey Lyttelton and The Guardian make this one cool act to catch while it's in town!

Shakespeare for Schools Festival: Brunton theatre, Edinburgh; 7 October 1900

Relish your Shakespeare as young fans get the chance to make Willy their own. Four local schools each produce their own half hour abridged version of different Shakespeare classics. Britain's largest youth drama festival calls Edinburgh home - look out for Romeo wooing Juliet with chips and cheese and finding she wants chips and curry sauce!

Homer's The Iliad is the starting point for this thoroughly modern drama. Glasgow's knife culture is the modern-day environment the action takes place in. It's a neat matching, complimented by the playwrite's choice to make the actors speak in iambic pentameter. As the playwrite, Cunneen says ''And because the actors are able to give an articulate, poetic account of themselves it makes you reconsider their motives and who they are as people, rather than just ticking the box that says 'violent young man please ignore'.
