Edinburgh's Lord Provost could be experiencing our endangered bus services himself if plans to sell his number plate go ahead. Well almost. The black Lexus that he uses for transport as Lord Provost has a very special number plate, S0. Edinburgh council are under pressure to put the pricey number plate on the market, following the recent sale of the S1 number plate for almost £400,000.

Possibly rarer than the S0 number plate - an actual parking space in Edinburgh. This photo has not been digitally enhanced.
Lord Provost Grubb has said that the registration belongs to the city and should be retained as a valuable part of Edinburgh heritage. It's entirely possible that the £500,000 value placed on the plate is due to its actually only being owned by the council and no private owners have S0. The next owner might find the value has dramatically reduced should he or she ever want to sell it.
What do you think - do you have any ideas about what Edinburgh Council could spend the money on? Or do you think this is a special part of Edinburgh's heritage that we need to retain?
