You don’t have to like wearing wellies. There are many Edinburgh opportunities for volunteering with the National Trust for Scotland. You could be an educational guide in one of the National Trust’s properties, a gardening volunteer, spend a weekend volunteering outdoors or even take a week out to go on a Thistle camp on St Kilda.

Choose your Location; Choose your Job
It’s not your normal 9-5 work. Fancy an indoor opportunity in one of the most exclusive Edinburgh addresses – you could try being a Charlotte Square gallery volunteer. Or if you’d like to get out in the fresh air, why not be an Environmental Education Ranger?
Conservation Volunteers – part-time
Work full time but want to lend a hand and get some fresh air? The Lothian Conservation Group is always looking for new Edinburgh members.
They meet once a month in Edinburgh (on the first Monday of the month) and you can join as many or as few work groups as you like. Learn how to cut trees down when forests need thinning, pick up some dry stane dyking skills or clear some ground for meadow-growing: these are just a few of the opportunities you might enjoy.
Go out with your friends. There are 4 groups that cover Scotland and often they complete projects together – the social events vary from sedate evening meals to fancy dress evenings! The work being tackled can be 1 day or weekend projects, so there are always meals together and the occasional trip to the pub!
