Tartan kilts (from China) for just £19.99. That's one of the smaller irritations from its neighbours that the Cashmere shop on the Royal Mile has received. The Gold brothers, who run the Abercrombie Tartan shop on the famous thoroughfare could be in trouble for covering up the building's original stonework with a new sign.
The company is also in the middle of legal battles regarding reproduction of the Skye and Princess Diana tartan.
Planners are objecting to the erection of the modern sign. They say it obscures the building and "has an adverse effect on the character and appearance of the listed building, the Old Town Conservation Area and the World Heritage Site". A local councillor has backed the bid to remove or alter the sign.
The owners, who have a dozen shops throughout Edinburgh and Fife, failed to request planning permission for the alteration.
What do you think? Are these tartanry crimes just too much? Or should the planners and councillors just focus on more important matters?
