The Leith Festival is an annual traditional community event taking place in June and providing a varied programme. Since 1907 the Pageant Parade has been a regular fixture in Leith’s calendar; it begins on Pilrig Church, to the Foot o’ Leith Walk and concludes on Leith Links for Gala Day. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that the parade outgrew its roots and became an Edinburgh festival in its own right.

Leith is twinned with Rio De Janeiro. Perhaps this gives you some indication of Leith’s glamorous aspirations. So it’s no surprise that Leith Festival aims to really snap at the heels of its geographically closest neighbour, Edinburgh’s Festival.
