31 December: 2200-0100, Princes Street Gardens
Kasabian and Idlewild are 2 of the previous acts to enjoy playing this top Edinburgh gig. Top music performers, giving their last show of the year (and first of the next) under the exceptionally craggy but spectacularly uplit Edinburgh Castle. The Ross Bandstand, in Edinburgh’s East Princes Street Gardens, is the venue for this very special concert.
This is a ticketed event, and you can choose between Enclosure or Garden tickets. November is when the line-up is traditionally announced. 2007 saw Kasabian and Idlewild play at this event, with X-Factor winner Leon, cancelling due to tonsilitis. An opportunity missed for everyone. Kasabian did send out a message to poorly Leon – but then distracted the crowd by performing a cracking set. And then 3 songs from the end, brought out Noel Gallagher to jam with them. Not a bad diversion.
Nearly 100,000 visitors flood Edinburgh for Hogmanay events each year. Edinburgh Hogmanay serviced apartments will give your time here in the capital a more personal touch.
Wee bit of history: Princes Street Gardens used to be known as Nor Loch but in the 1820s this area was drained; following this the New Town was developed, on the design of an architect who was only 22 – and in 1854 Waverley Train Station officially opened.
