Happy Ne’er Day. In Scotland, this is what ‘New Year’s Day’ is shortened to. However, you might only have time to shout this version if you take part in the Hogmanay One o’clock Run. This dash down The Royal Mile is just one of the many Edinburgh Hogmanay events. Kids and big kids can race each other down 1 Scottish Mile (please note, Scottish miles are 1.1 English miles, so you may need to get in training…)
Your name’s not down, you’re not coming in. For this event you need to buy a ticket. But with it you’ll receive a Hogmanay 2008-branded t-shirt. Gather at the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, right at the top of The Royal Mile, and get under starter’s orders…
Run past the Scottish Storytelling Centre, John Knox’s House and on towards the Scottish Parliament. Abbey Sanctuary is the final calling point, founded in the 12th century by King David I when his life was saved during a hunting expedition.
Whether you’ve been up ‘til the wee hours partying at the Hogmanay Street Party or enjoying ‘first footing’ with your neighbours, this is one annual event you won’t want to miss. If you’re visiting Hogmanay-tastic Edinburgh, you’ll find serviced apartments and corporate housing that makes you stay longer than just New Year’s Night!
