Hogmanay celebrations are very important in Scotland, as you will see from the sheer amount of Edinburgh Hogmanay events. Princes Street Party delivers 3 live music stages, 2 giant screens, and plenty of fireworks.

If you’re an independent traveller after value-for-money self-catering accommodation, or a city centre serviced apartment, you need to book early or miss out. Plus, most Edinburgh accommodation requires you to stay more than one night over this period. With 80,000 revellers in town for the Princes Street Hogmanay Street Party, it’s not difficult to see why Edinburgh apartments and corporate real estate are both really in high demand.

You must arrive before 2300 to be allowed access to the Street Party. Fireworks in front of Edinburgh Castle are at midnight, and the best views are from Princes Street. Too late to get tickets – you can still watch the firework display from Calton Hill or Arthur’s Seat – you won’t be on your own.

Previous performers have included Scotland’s Proclaimers, Marti Pellow, Paolo Nutini, folk musician Karine Polwart and Amy MacDonald. Hogmanay Street Party 2009 performers’ names will not be released before October 2009.
