Princes Street

Edinburgh's most famous shopping street, complete with big-name shops. Look out onto Princes Street Gardens, where jazz concerts and winter wonderland celebrations, plus the world-famous Princes Street Hogmanay Street Party take place. A UK Order of Parliament has been passed to prevent any building on the south side of Princes Street. The National Archives of Scotland marks its east end, and Charlotte Square terminates its west end.

The writer Walter Scott really dominates the south side of the street, with the Walter Scott Monument and the Waverley train station (named after one of his novels). Try climbing the monument for a breathtaking view of the city - or if you're here at Christmastime, take a ride on the ferris wheel to get a birdseye perspective?

Princes Street is named after King George IV's sons - the king vetoed calling this street St Giles' Street. Scotland's culture is all on show on Princes Street, with the National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy Building both built on The Mound, bisecting this street. Meet up and take in the sights, with fantastic group accommodation for stags or hens, family holiday short-term rentals or classic serviced apartments for corporate relocations and contractor apartments - you will love staying in Edinburgh.
