Royal Mile

Lawnmarket is just one of the streets which makes up The Royal Mile: from Edinburgh Castle you will walk along Edinburgh Castle Esplanade; Castlehill; Lawnmarket; High Street; Canongate; Abbey Strand. The Royal Mile links Edinburgh Castle and Holyroodhouse Palace.

Walking away from Edinburgh Castle, you walk along Lawnmarket – you will see on your left the preserved 17th-century townhouse Gladstone's Land, owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Then the bottom of the Lawnmarket is clear – a major intersection with George IV Bridge on your right (south) and Bank Street on your left which leads to The Mound and the New Town. Edinburgh’s Lawnmarket was its former linen market, and features several tourist shops. At Castlehill's intersection with Lawnmarket, Johnston Terrace, Upper Bow is The Hub, the ticket office for the Edinburgh International Festival.

Further down Edinburgh's Royal Mile, next to St Giles' Cathedral is the Mercat Cross. In the 18th century, capital punishment was carried out here. 21st century Scotland instead sees Royal proclamations and election results read out here.Ghost tours in the Old Town will make you giggle and give you a chill!

Dominating the rest of the Royal Mile is its bisection by The Bridges: North Bridge leads north to the east end of Princes Street and spans Waverley train station; South Bridge sends you south and spans Cowgate, which leads to serviced apartments in Grassmarket.City centre Castle serviced apartments on the Royal Mile are perfectly located, making vacations simple.
