Fourball. No, not how many balls you might expect to lose in an average game, if you really struggle with water features. Fourball is a new development for the Curtis Cup Match 2008, where the best amateur female golfers from the US, Great Britain and Ireland compete for a silver Paul Revere bowl.

Fourball means your team of two playing another team of two; within each team, shots are alternated; the team with the least shots wins that hole.

To stimulate friendly rivalry among the women golfers of many lands’ the 1905 silver trophy gives this as the motivation for the Curtis Cup. But the competition has never expanded beyond two: the US, Great Britain and Ireland teams (US & GBI). Wherever you come from, this first Curtis Cup Match at St Andrews will make for fantastic day trips out from Edinburgh.
